How Do I Convert 12Volts Ac To 12Volts Dc

I have a need for a 12v DC output (around 1 amp) and bought what I thought was a 240v to 12v dc output. When it didn't work, I complained and was told that it is a 12 volt AC output. I need to convert this 12 v AC to DC. I can solder OK but know very little about electronics. Can anyone help please?

Bridge rectifier / "diode bridge" for full wave ac-dc conversion + a bit of smoothing to reduce output ripple. Watch the video.

Probably not worth the hassle unless you have a suitable BR lying about in the workshop, take it back and get a DC one instead...
