I imagine is is about 3.15m square with the height being 2.9m. If it is, is falls well within 50 cu. m.

Surely a 3rd dimension is needed?
I assume you've given length x width but what is the height?
The 'missing' dimension is 5.48m.

What are you Building?
...not only that, but where does "cubic foot" come into it?
1768 cu.ft. as the volume is 50 cu. metres

Jack the hat,it is for building regs for a conservatory on our survey.all they have given us is the size of the conservatory 2.90mts x 3.15 mtrs.and the solicitor wants to know if the conservatory exceeds 50 cubic metres.

Since the conservatory is almost certainly not a cuboid and the volume may be critical can you let us know the actual shape and relevant dimensions such as length, width, wall height(s), roof peak height?
If those figures are the maximum figures for the length and width then so long as the highest point of the conservatory is less than 5.5 metres above the floor (which it almost certainly will be) then the volume will definitely be less than 50m³.
Because there are only two meters being multiplied, so it would be square meters and not cubic meters.
So, 2.90 meters * 3.15 meters = 9.135 square meters.
Correct, Subject Teacher- although I'm pretty sure prendi needs to calculate the figure for cubic metres as it is relevant to the building regulations
. erm one could help saying

that is a square measurement of around 10 m2
and so the volume would only exceed 50 sq metres if the height ( or third measurement ) were longer (or higher than ) 5m or fifteen feeet or thereabouts.
damn sorry cu m
