Cloning a dog

Why have scientists cloned a dog rather than  another animal say a mouse? Is the dog more genetically complex and therefore give more useful data?

lol...probably because a dog is more potentially lucrative....knowing dog lovers as I do.....They would pay the earth to have their beloved "Spot" or "Rover" for ever....Aren't I the cynic then!....Commoner <G>

They (the scientists) are Korean. And Koreans rather like dogs, as menu items, allegedly. Though the news reports showed them stroking their cloned doggies like pets. Possibly selectng one for the pot.

Dog is no more complex at all by the way, than any other mammal. Though in ethical terms this seems to loom larger...

At the risk of sounding very 'village idiot', i am of the understanding that an animal (lets say dog) can be cloned to look exactly like the animal it came from. So although identical in looks the cloned animal would go onto to develop its own unique personality therefore (in my mind) being completely different to the animal it came from. I would never want my doggie cloned because even though she is most lovely to look at, its her personailty, uniqueness and character quirks that make me love her so much.

pretty much, there is the great debate about nature versus nurture in that respect, but your dogs behaviour and personallity has been created by the way you have treated it over it's life span, even a tiny difference in the way a dog is treated could make it totally different from a generically identical one.
