Rotating Black Object In Sky

At around 6:30 pm today my brother called me outside to show me a slow moving object in the sky. It took be at least 10 minutes to find it so that's an indication of how small, and how up it was. It was only until we got out our binoculars that we began to see some real detail. The object was shaped like a candy cane, except with a shorter straight part. It had 2/3 blue headlights and was rotating in all directions, almost like the "pilot" had lost control.

Truly in awe here, any one have any serious answers?

P.s, no this was not a plane, helicopter, rc toy, hot air balloon.

The problem with these sort of sightings with no pictures and limited detail and no way of knowing whether the object is near and small or distant and large, is that they could be pretty much anything. I once saw what looked like a black square rotating in the sky. I watched for ages puzzling as to what it might be. It suddenly got closer and turned out to be just a sheet of newspaper lifted high by thermals and sillhouetted against the light sky.
How did you identify "headlights" at 18:30 when the sky was still very bright?
Could they just have been refletive blue dots on the object?
