If Cruithne rotates around the Earth, why isn't it recognised as a moon?

Because it doesn't orbit the Earth, it has an eliptical orbit around the sun which takes just less than an Earth year.  Because of this (and complicated celestial mechanics) it appears to have a horseshoe orbit around the Earth.
on QI they said it counts as a sattellite. Alan Davies was caught out by the question. yes it is a horshoe orbit.
