Cleaning Silver

I have a small silver picture frame (passport size photo) which is rather delicate and now tarnished. Is there a liquid product in which I could immerse the item rather than cleaning with a cloth.

Silver Dip is good.

If the frame is at all valuable, don't dip clean it as it removes all the patina. You can use the dip on cotton wool instead

The cleaning/restoring of anything "old" is a very subjective matter. Remember, once you do something to it, it's usually impossible to "undo" what you have done. If you definitely want it to appear as if it were new, then go ahead and use any of the myriad of silver cleaning methods (including washing soda and aluminum foil). Things are like people, and as they get older they develop character marks that show their age, and these "flaws" are part of their history so why get rid of them? As woofgang mentions, once you remove that, sometimes very attractive, patina of age you aint getting it back for a long time. Have I answered your question? No, because it's entirely up to you to decide what to do.

Use scrunched up newspaper, rub gently. Works a treat

Please don't use silver dip. I've ruined some things with this. Try a paste or bras so on a soft tooth brush...buy a baby tooth brush.

Toothpaste is very good for jewellery

Scroll down to the 6th row and look at the US $1 coin. Imagine that some people would want to dip that and make it look like new!

Have you tried a wee soak in washing up liquid?

Are you sure it is solid silver and not silver plated ? If it is plated, then anything other than soap and water will wear off the thin silver coating.
