I have two council bins and have to separate the household rubbish accordingly so why is it that if I'm out on the streets and need to put anything in the bin I find that the rubbish is all mixed together?

i assume rubbish in street bins goes straight into landfill

But its not much different to my rubbish
ps, be careful, putting domestic refuse in a street bin can result in a fine!
I think it's largely to do with space, too much street furniture means less room for pedestrians.

I have seen colour coded bins in larger city centres.
Yes, alot of cintre centre bins are colour coded but the instructions are sometimes confusing if you are in a rush and I'm sure a large number of people just choose one at random, so it's probably not a very efficient system
