Gu10 Type Bulbs

I want to replace my halogen GU10 type bulbs, with LEDS, but I am confused by the wattage. At present I use these :::

But what equivalent in LEDs do I need ? I have tried a 5w, but I need something brighter, so what LED do I need ?

Can I get them brighter than 5w ?

The highest wattage I can find is 7 watts with a claimed output of 600 lumens, which compares to around 700 lumens for a 75 watt Halogen.

You really need to forget about "watts" and focus on "lumens". Lamps sold now all have their light output (in lumens) on the pack...so you should be able to pick out suitable lamps of all types simply by their lght output, rather than by energy consumed.

Agree with The Chairman.. These are 7W 550 lumens. Equivalent to 70w halogen. Should be near enough, I guess, Mikey...

I have been having a look around and 7w is about as bright as I can find.
I wanted something brighter if I could.

Is there a webpage with a table of equivalent brightnesses ?

The LED lamps are so much better. It felt like I was replacing the Halogens every few months. The LED's have been in years and not needed replacing. The light at first felt a bit different but you soon get used to it.

Are the GU bulbs the halogen ones? My little girl nearly set fire to her bum and bushy tail when she decided to sleep under one of those. She is pretty but very dim.

wolf....GU10 describes the fitting (like bayonet or screw etc) . They are available as halogen (which give off lots of heat) or LED (which run cool - virtually no heat given off at all).

Are you sure you can simply replace the bulbs?

Someone told me you have to change the whole set up.
