My old aluminium tripod is getting loose at the joints. So a replacement is very much on the cards.
Now that carbon-fibre(?) tripods are available, I wonder whether, apart from their being more pricey, there are any hidden disadvantages in this material for tripods. Their obvious advantage is little weight. I am inclined to go for this.
Can anybody offer any information in this regard?

Most of the tripods that we use for our Black Magic Ursas or Red Epics are carbon fibre because otherwise the combined weight of the cameras- which weigh a ton- and the tripods would be unworkable. Can't say I've heard any of the ops or techboys moaning about them.
