Nursing In 1960 Old Fashioned Remedy For Bed Sores- Egg Whites

My mother has been a nurse for over 50 years in orthapedics and care of the elderly and we were chatting the other day about how much things had changed. In 1960 when she was training if people got bed sores the remedy which seemed to work a treat was egg whites on the skin and a hairdryer. My toe is quite moist still and mum suggested putting egg white on it and a hairdryer I am still thinking about it, possibly when hell freezes over??!!

My Scottish Mother in Law suggested egg whites when my Daughter got really bad nappy rash...It worked, didn't use a hair drier though.

When hell freezes over might be a bit soon, maybe ask at your GP for advice.
Things have moved on since the 60's, I was quite wee then. :-)

Egg whites do help nappy rash, leave to dry naturally, no hairdryers the GH.

Just because things have moved on doesn't mean the old methods don't work. And in some cases better than the modern version.

florence nightingale first suggested that washing one's hands might help stop the spread of infection in the 1800s. Doesnt mean it shouldnt be followed now!

My OH still thinks putting butter on a burn helps, because that's what his dear old mum used to do. Lordy!

Eggwhite forms an airtight seal, so yes, it does work, very well.

I believe that a worn sock wrapped around the throat helps if it is sore..according to my granny...and a bar of soap in bed stops night cramps ?

A worn sock? Is that because it might still be warm from the previous user? Why not a scarf instead? :)) I love these old advices. [Is that a word?]
