if person x bought a plot on the moon, is the guy that sells it actually legally selling a part of the moon or is there no real ownership?

For example, if whoever wanted to build a hotel on my moon land, would there be anything stopping him?

Most countries are signatories to the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, which disallows any soveriegnty in space. Therefore, no person or corporation has the right to sell plots of Moon real estate. Some companies have insinuated that they have legal rights to moon acreage, but to perfect that claim, they would have to personally go to the Moon and survey for correct legal description. All of which is prohibited by various international treaties...
I've no doubt that Clanad knows better but wasn't the treaty that no country would claim ownership of the moon?
This left the loophole for one person to write to heads of government and the UN (you'll find him via google) and claim ownership.

He's not even the first to lay claim to the moon - it was already sold many times over back in the early 20th century.
