1. form of oxygen: a gaseous form of oxygen with three oxygen atoms per molecule, formed by electrical discharge in oxygen. Use: water purification. O3
2. fresh air: fresh pure air ( informal )
it often comes up in crosswords as the pure fresh air as the seaside, which is good but as the dictionary definition above says it is informal
Ozone is good if it is way up there in the stratosphere but not when it is close enough to mingle with people.
In the air, ozone is "made" when lightning catalyzes oxygen radicals in the air and form ozone. The ozone layer as I am sure many of you know, is the protective layer that protects inhabitants from radiation coming from the sun. That makes Ozone the good guy.
However, Ozone is also used in certain air purifiers to disinfect the air of micro organisms that can be dangerous to a person's health. Ozone is corrosive. Microorganisms are living creatures, same like us. If ozone is capable of manipulating the 'bodily' functions of these microbes, what do you think it can do to us humans?
Of course there are no scientific facts to support claims that ozone is good or bad for humans in the long term but we just gotta be careful for ourselves, right?
Feel free to correct any part of this answer. I got the details from writing abt air purifiers but they were not presented in a neutral voice.
