Currently, I was looking for a job. I have done my Master's in Finance & Marketing. I have come across a payroll company that was offering me a job. But I just wanted to know what exactly a payroll company does and its roles & responsibilities.
If you do apply, I would make it clear that you are still looking for a job. If you see a removed answer, deborah, don't worry- threads like this often attract spam that gets removed. I'm pretty sure your Masters course will have covered this in the very earlys tages- you may want to look back at your notes. Or better still, research the company before you apply
from rather poor book keeping course which I failed ( stand up the awful AAT!)
the pay roll duties will be
making up basic wage, doing the over time and or piece work for each worker ( and getting it right )
NICs at the correct rate which are sent direct to the govt
and pension contributions sent to the pension firm
correct deductions of income tax to inland revenue
completion of the relevant account ( which balances every week / month pay period - money out of the company balances the contribs to worker, HMRC and pension
and completion of the running account ( expenses as pay)
or perhaps they will say - oh no the clerks do that
we sit in the office and drink tea ....
A basic payroll service will collect wage and hour information from the employer and use that information to calculate gross wages, subtract all pertinent withholdings and deductions, print checks, make direct deposits and prepare all employment tax filings. ... The Internet has made payroll services even more convenient.
