Bit of a weird question - but if | was transported back to around 4,000 years after this asteroid, would the earth have settled down, and could I survive.

I have read that it took years and years for the earth to return to something like a normal state. During the period immediately following the asteroid strike, the earth would have been uninhabitable for almost all living creatures. You wouldn't have stood much of a chance.

From what little I could glean from two minutes of Google searching, the answer is "possibly". I'd say you would have a better than even chance of survival, though, whether the Earth had settled down or not (assuming you've watched enough of Ray Mears's stuff).

So there we have two very different answers...

What *is* true is that most of the life that survived was fairly small. My own thinking is that humans generally have an advantage over other creatures in that they are able to make plans, which would probably be very helpful if you are having to scrape a pittance.

I was just curious as to whether the air had cleared and plants had re established themselves. I'm sure the air would have been clean.
4,000 years sounds like a reasonable amount of time. But until I have finished my time machine, I suppose it's all just guesswork!

you'd be able to live off pre-cooked dinosaur for a while, I suppose, but if there was a lot of muck thrown up into the atmosphere and blocking out the sun, the corn and watermelon crops would be affected.

You'd have felt breathless all the time because there was only approximately half the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere at that time, and approximately doubt the amount of carbon dioxide:

I just wanted to eat fruit, fry a few pre humans and sunbathe on my own. But maybe the lack of oxygen would prove problematic, so I'll wait a few more thousand years.
