Hi does any ony know how you can get the black stuff of your hands that is inside a whisky barrel which I believe is called whiskey fungus? We have renovated a barrel but cannot seem to get the black stuff off of our hands.

If you haven't got any Swarfega or other heavy duty cleaner then try a handful of washing up liquid with a large spoonful of granulated sugar and rub all over your hands.

Try first generously covering the affected area with petroleum jelly (Vaseline or other) and leave it for ten minutes or so. Then, applying it directly without added water, use something like washing up liquid as soap (again fairly generous amount) and scrub with a stiff nailbrush. Rinse off and repeat if necessary.

Are you sure the barrel hasn't been burnt out, i handled loads of half barrels when i worked in a garden centre and the all were black inside

Same question would apply if burnt out how do you get it off your hands

Washing and scrubbing with a nail brush, it is difficult to get off.

Just wait for four or five days. I have the same problem when I crush and press my grapes. Wash your hands regularly of course, when you've been to the loo or touched an infected handrail.
