The Vaccine Has To Be Stored At -70 Or-80. Waht Happens At -40 Or -20?
We have established that the vaccine has to be stored long-term at -70 or -80, but can be kept in a fridge for up to 5 days after being thawed out. -70 or -80 is extremely cold, not colder than any temperature recorded on Earth, but nearly. A domestic freezer gets down to about -20, enough to stop food spoiling for months. Obviously -20 is not cold enough to stop all molecular motion, you have to go to -273 to do that, but I would have thought (obviously incorrectly) that there would not be much molecular motion at -20. I suppose it depends on what medium the vaccine is carried in. If it were water, the molecules would stop moving at 0, but if it were in ethanol it would still be liquid at -113. What happens to the vaccine at, say, -30?
