I too like the Heath Robinson repair anecdotes but will add that Armstrong and Aldrin had to stand in the Eagle lander during the 60 mile descent as it was too small for seats, and the Moon itself is the 5th largest satellite in our Solar system.

How could they smell the moon inside life support environments? Surely they didn't simply open the sample boxes and take a whiff! It may have been deadly to do so there and then! I don't believe that bit! Something else mentioned on QI was that flags left on the moon are now all white from sun exposure.
