The virus is able to determine whether (when in a pub) you are eating a substantial meal or just having a drink – and therefore infect you or not.

I can think of no possible scientific explanation for this behaviour from a virus.

four people sitting round a table eating, twelve people standing a table drinking, who's more likely to be infected?

Another one of the many ridiculous 'rules' foisted on us I'm afraid.
Assume this should be in jokes?
Its because your sitting down, not walking to bar and chatting to others around the pub, and because in general your less carefull when drunk (peopel in general not you personally, a dont know you).
Its common sense, some dont have it do they
sqad, chilldoubt, nurses must despair
Oh Gawd bobbinwales has joined the debate, that's it I'm off!!
Bye. Its odd how your views never reflect those of most scientists, medics and elected politicians of all parties. Listen to Matrk Drayfords speech
Here in Greece, if I buy a new thermostat for my immersion heater, apparently the virus will know and everyone will die. On the other hand, if an electrician comes to the house and fits one, the virus won't notice and we'll be safe.
I've not been in a pub this year however I thought even when just drinking it has been table service only throughout, people couldn't go and order at the bar anyway could they so the wandering around doesn't apply?

A mutation of the virus in Greece shows even more impressive behaviour.
prudie had to have table service only... besides which i think one of our locals is shut anyway, there food is absymal at any rate,

If I go to the pub for a meal with friends, I am sitting cheek by jowl - adjacent to my friends at a table; talking and breathing over each other.
When I go to the pub on my own, I can normally ensure that I am no closer than 2 metres to other patrons and staff.
one at least can get a drink here, the pubs in Wales are closed to selling alcohol - watching the news of pubs pouring good beer down the drain, heartbreaking for those trying to survive in the pub game
You aren't supposed to be going to the pub with friends ...
//I can think of no possible scientific explanation for this behaviour from a virus.//

Luckily for humanity Hymie your thoughts have little or no consequence on the subject in question.
what about when you meet friends there Ick... i am meeting a friend for coffee later this morning,

Squad, as someone who claims to work in the medical profession – I’m surprised at your lack of interest in how such a virus is able to distinguish between me sitting on my own (2 metres from anyone else) and me being close to other persons eating.

Best not to go for a meal then.
Have a drink at home if your deseprate for one or even if you just fancy one.

I wish are were open and virus had went, but for now....Maybe we should shut all restraunts and bars completeley. It'll stop all this wingeing and scotch egg, can viruses only come out after 10pm ect, sillyness.
Hymie. Just think about what your saying.
virus travel from person to person by touching, breathing, coughing, on things they touch,
Sit on your own 5m from anyone with good hygeine you should be okay. Enjoy your drink
Hymie, I only CLAIM to be in the medical profession, that doesn't mean that I am in any way medically qualified.
