If I may... in a rather small nutshell; Marx believed capitalism had to be replaced because the evolution of society's institutions is a natural and inevitable process of history. This evolution takes place as a result of class struggle--the struggle of lower socioeconomic classes over the material fruits of production (Source: Robert G. Crawford). His mantra became "From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs". Obviously, he didn't take into consideration human propensity towards corruption, sloth and the need to experience the fullfillment of accomplishment inherent in each person. All of which, in my opinion, contributed to the pre-ordained demise of communism. One need look no further than 90 miles off of the U.S. coast to see the misery indured by a society living under imposed communism... (Rant over).
Is that misery from having one of the best health and education systems in the world or the misery caused by decades of spiteful trade embargos?
I guess the best health and education system is the reason so many Cubanos flee from the island seeking refuge in Del Norte... It really is an island paradise...Average age of automobiles there is 40 years, annual income average is $2800, Cuba spends an average of 16% of its annual budget on health care (vs nearly 40% in U.S.), Dentists and other health care providers shine tourists shoes for extra money to supplement their $15 a month income. Retirees subsist on $8 per month... But, I'm sure this is all caused by raw Yankee imperialism and oppression of the masses and has nothing to do with mismanagement or Russian abandonment. Why are there no democratically elected communist regimes anywhere in the world?
As this question is in the Science section, I presume you are referring to the scientific aspect of Marxist theory. Marx thought that society inevitably evolves from one system to another (primitive, then feudal, then capitalism, then communism) and that the social forces which bring about these changes happen logically, like a scientific law (a bit like ice melting or water evaporating).

Clanad, you are a hard act to follow. Your answers to the "Marxist Perspective" are excellent. Only Lenin's "Useful Fools" can fail to see the truth, and they are out there.

There seems to be two types of Marxists, both with different perspectives. They are Speculative Marxists, and Operative Marxists. Some people become confused, and mix the two. Operative Marxists are revealed by their actions, and the misery in their wake. Speculative Marxists are known by their weasel words and lies.
