Ours doesn't but I guess it is possible if it has been designed so that the magnetron is close to the outer casing. You would expect a magnetron to get hot, for example our microwave is rated at 500W cooking power, but draws 930W from the supply, so only half the energy makes it into the food.
Is the fan or other ventilation working properly?
