Is it okay to eat only two meals a day? With work, I can't seem to manage to eat more than twice a day: once before work around 1 p.m. and then again when I get home from work at 11 p.m.

I think it's ok to eat only two meals a day.

It may be better to also eat something for breakfast, even if it's only some fruit or a cereal

Throughout my working I never ate breakfast, had a sandwich for lunch and a hot meal in the evening. Perfectly adequate.

Like Dave, above, breakfast hardly ever featured in my routine during my school, college and working days.  (Even if I had to get up at, say, 4am, I simply wouldn't feel like eating anything at all until well after midday).  So two meals per day was the norm for me.

I'm exactly the same, I have never been a breakfast eater, snack at lunchtime and a hearty evening meal!

I suppose everyone is different, I would feel sick if I didn't eat something in the morning

Its OK to eat 2 meals a day but 11pm seems late if that's your main meal.

When I did the late shift like you, I took a healthy pack up to eat around 6pm or whenever you have your break. That way you are not so reliant on the other meals providing all the nutrients you need..

Eat as many as you wish. Just don't overindulge and keep the mix healthy.

i do an early shift i have either scambled eggs on toast or beans about three in the morning, then a bowl of cereal at break at work around nine and then a proper meal about two, and then a couple of pints!!

The thing is, because I work afternoons and evenings, I do not tend to go to bed early or get up early.

I work a fortnight of 7am til 7pm shifts, then a fortnight if 7pm til 7am shifts.

So my system is constantly in turmoil regards to eating and sleeping.

I do adapt, but I find eating anything more than 2 meals impossible.

Breakfast is non existent, I can't remember a time I had a normal breakfast, probably when I was last on holiday, but that's now 7 years ago.

So yes it's fine to live on 2 meals a day.

I forgot to mention, when I am on the night shifts, my two main meals are 11pm and 3am.

Because when I am working nights my 11pm is the equivalent of a midday dinner, and the 3am meal is tea time. Only difference is it's at night.

Then I get home in the morning around 7.30am and try to sleep when everyone else is waking up.

Your life really is upside down.

I have worked nights in various jobs.

When you stop you wonder why you are feeling so well. Then you realise that is normal, sleeping at the correct time.
