methane gas

My step dad thinks if you hold a fart in you'll blow because of the methane gas. Not a joke i'm serious can you shut him up for ustell him how stupid this is

Well, methane is a ''lighter than air'' gas so if you hold in farts long enough you will eventually float off the ground, the real danger is if you now fart when you are some distance off the gound without a parachute.

This actually happened to a friend of mine. He went a whole week without farting and eventually the pressure got too much. He didn't actually explode, just shot round the room like a deflating balloon.
