Is Pure Distilled Water (not boiled) poisonous? I was told it was a while ago by someone and didn't question it. But It popped into my head randomly and I can't see how it can be!

No nutritional value but certainly not poisonous
If you drink distilled water for a prolonged period of time, it may begin to leach minerals from your body. It's probably not a good idea to drink distilled water.

What about De-ionised water? It might have been that that I'm on about... ;-) Any one know about that?

nope de ionised water, while very expensive and rather yukky is not poisonous.

What about heavy water?
How about heavy water? Well, not heavy (naturally enriched) but chemically enriched: although not with (delta)18Oxygen but with (delta)2Hydrogen (Deuterium)?? Is that radioactive, or am I mistaken?

if you drink heavy water will it make you put weight on?

sorry.

Heavy water or Deuterium oxide is not radioactive. Deuterium is a stable isotope of hydrogen. According to the MSDS: "High concentrations in the body can affect biochemical processes. Ingestion of large amounts impairs kidney function, CNS operation. Chemical presents no hazard unless significant quantities are ingested."

I had a poke around on the old t'internet and read that although not lethal, Pure deionised water can be quite bad for you if consumed constantly. Apparently water in it's purest form is quite an aggressive solvent, and will dissolve membranes and oils etc etc. Also that it absorbs salts and minerals from the digestive system - but it would be taken back by the kidneys at somepoint! to-me-to-you....

Thanks for answers everyone! :D
Sorry theren but your last answer is scientific nonsense. Drinking distilled or deionised water will cause you no harm at all. Once you have drank it it simply becomes part of your body fluids, which are water based, and is no longer "pure" water.
