Not quite sure which category to put this in: I've often heard that if you press the button at a pedestrian crossing repeatedly, it speeds up how fast the lights change. I've always thought this wasn't true. Does anyone know for definite?

funny question there is a button on the underside if you look that twists that changes the walking time only by a few seconds tho :)

Definately not true. Just as repeated pressing of a lift call button doesn't make the lift come any quicker.

agent4 - also not true. The vibrating button is to let blind people know when it is safe to cross. For some reason this is replacing the bleepers, which I personally think is a better idea.

"The vibrating button is to let blind people know when it is safe to cross."
How do they find it?
I'm sure they can find it, rojash. I am always amazed at the way they find their way through complicated towns, across roads, and avoiding hazards including cars on the footpath. Finding a button on a pole must be relatively easy.
What happens if five blind people need to use the crossing at once?
agent4, i know what you mean and im not sure it is the same thing as sddsddean. i think the thing on the bottom that twist around is merely a timing mechanism and from my experience it does speed up the changing of traffic lights if you help it on a bit.
this is only on single sets of traffic lights though, not on ones which rely on the timing of other sets.

pressing the button repeatedly definately doesnt affect the lights although alot of people do it, including me cos its just something to fill the 10 seconds or so u have to wait!
Noooo! You have to press it five or six times. You are obviosuly not hoping hard enough when you do it.
Pressing it continuously does make you feel better.
Hehe! This thread made me laugh so much!
When I saw the question, I was like "Yes!! I've always wondered that too!"
So thanks for answering guys :o) x
Also if were talking about traffic lights try this.

Late at nite if your the only car going towards a set of traffic lights flash your lights and c how quick they change :)
