This is in essence, the reason v. faith debate. It amounts to what one chooses to base their beliefs on. I have committed myself to basing my beliefs on the knowledge of reality I am given automatically through perception. This has proved vastly more reliable than countless versions of reality I have been proffered by others.

If I can understand the relationship that further knowledge has to my perceptual experience, I then add this to my knowledge base. Otherwise I can not claim knowledge of it. This process has led me to a substantial understanding of what I am as a human being and my relationship to others and the world I live in.

Anyway, to know who is right, ask yourself what religion is based on, and what science is based on...

For those who want to advance our race there is science.

For those who want to live in the dark ages there is religion.

I admit we might 'advance' ourselves into construction of new ways of killing ourselves but at least we had the guts to try new stuff and expand our minds.

Or we can sit at home, be really scared of everything, not understand anything and claim 'god won't let me think for myself'.

Give me free-thinking scientific heathens anytime - a much nicer bunch of people.

Anyway, this is a science topic strand - get religion questions out of here. Move it to the 'History and Myths' topic.

There is no comparison between science and religion so the question should not even arise.
