Thies, from a web site of a product I've used here in the U.S.for several years, successfully:

It's a blend of scientific additives which prevents fuel from undergoing degradation and oxidation during prolonged storage. STA-BIL acts as a protective wrapper around fuel molecules so they don't combine with oxygen to make your gas go bad.
How Well Does STA-BIL Work?
It works great. On average, the life of your typical gasoline is extended from 2 months oxidation life without STA-BIL up to 15 months will STA-BIL. STA-BIL keeps your gas fresh for quick starts.
There are other similar products and there should be a similar one in the U.K.

I was always under the impression that gas and petrol are two different types of fule.

Tadpole Gasoline IS petrol - it's just what the yanks call it. What they call gas, I don't know.

Petrol+oil is used in many 2stroke ( 2/ )engines.ie.lawnmowers,hedgecutters,strimmers,motocyclesetc.When when garden eqipment is stored through the winter period the mix deteriates, with petol evaporation combined with the oil thickening the mix is not good enough to ignite or run smoothly.Allways empty and refill with a fresh mix.Petrol also comes in LPG (liquid petrolium gas) this is used in many homes ,vehicles, caravans, etc
Sorry thats bottled LPG. and petrol/oil mix usually 20/1 25/1 50/1 usually recomended by the manufacturer.

LPG is different. Called gas because it is a gas, petroleum because, like petrol it is made from crude oil, liquified because it is stored under pressure as a liquid to save space.

It is either propane or butane.
