As a professor of biochemistry, I know a reasonable amount about this subject.

The problem I have right now is that I have no idea how simple or complex a reply you require as you have not said why you want to know about it.

I have to be able to assess how much you know and understand already before I can even consider replying.
Not sure if that answers your question

Hi SKA

A polymorphic locus is a locus which may contain a number of possible alleles. An allele is a version of a particular gene which is responsible for a certain trait ( a good example is eye colour)

D

Yes, a polymorphic locus is a locus at which there are two or more alleles, each of which is present at a frequency of at least 1% in the animal population.

As you know, a locus in genetics means gene and alleles are different forms of the same gene. During gene mutation, many alleles appear and it is then termed a polymorphic locus. These alleles cause the variation in individuals in a species as dawkins explains.
