first turn it into a decimal then adjust for powers of 10 (E below means "to the power of")

6/5 = 1.2 = 0.12 x 10E1
32 = 0.32 x 10E2
3/4 = 0.75 = 0.75x 10E0
81 = 0.81 x 10E2

Question Author
sorry my question came out wrong

how would i work out things like

.....6/5
32

or
.....3/4
81
not sure what you mean, do you mean 6 fiths of 32 and 3 quarters of 81? if so then it's

6/5 x 32/1 = 192/5 = 38.4 = 0.384 x 10E2

3/4 x 81/1 = 243/4 = 60.75 = 0.6075 x 10E2

If this is not what you mean then please be more specific.

if I was working out say 3/4 of 81 I would first find 1/4 and then multiply it by 3.

eg. 81 divided by 4 = 20.25

20.25 x 3 = 60.75

so answer 3/4 of 81 would be 60.75

Maths teacher to the rescue...

you don't mean standard form; you mean fractions as indices or powers.

32 to the power 6/5 becomes:

32^(6/5)

= (32^(1/5))^6

= 2^6 = 64

81^(3/4) = (81^(1/4))^3 = 3^3 = 27.

Quite hard to type rather than write!
