emergency position indicating rescue beacon (EPIRB)
wasnt sure which section to put this question in but here goes,
do emergency position indicating rescue beacons on ships work underwater or can the signal only be recieved once the beacon has reached the surface
any information or links would be really helpful, especially regarding the reliability of the beacons

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.i dont know any links, but most EBIPB's do work underwater, but not tat deep, about 5-10 mertes is the max they will work at, any deeper and you will risk the signal geting to weak to detect unless the reciever is very very close. all marine style EPIRB's and avation EPIRB's float any way,so there is no point of using it underwater as it wil float to the top.
for more info, you could look at one of the many online chandelarys, as all good chandelarys (marine stores) stock a range of EPIRB's. the power, range and cost does vairy though
