Strange quetion but i just put a bit on the fire. Real fire alight this morning, been upt bathroom and cleansed and toned etc with cotton wool - bathroom bin full so took cotton wool downstairs to put in kitchen but as have to walk past fire to get there put in on fire along with half the contents of bathroom bin - not the aerosols though - did that once by accident and thought my house had been bombed. Very scary not to mention the mess of ash alll over the whole room!!

i burn everything I can in my incinerator, then it goes into the compost bin for the garden. Cotton wool burns really well.

it is a survival trick im told. it ignites very easily with a flint spark and so is a good means of starting a fire. I saw a film once the name evades me at this time, it may even have been Ray Mears dont know but he used a tamponas part of his survival kit as it cotains the very cotton wool you describe in your question.
