I know someone who is troubled with arthritic knees. She sprays Deep Heat spray, or uses a similar gel, which provides temporary relief, as do hot water bottles and ensuring that she has enough to drink. The only problem is that for the rest of the family, the whole house reeks of the spray. Is there a smell-free alternative, available without prescription please.?
What sort of arthritis is it, and is she having it seen to? When I had osteo- arthritis in both knees I tried all the things listed (though I found that packets of frozen peas were more effective at relieving the pain than hotwater bottles or Deep Heat) but knew in my heart that there was no lasting solution there. I am now the proud possessor (via the NHS) of two full-replacement knees. All the pain has gone and I dance around like a two-year old.
I believe that it is osteo arthritis. She is 88 years old. Her knee joints are massive. When in extreme pain, she has seen the doctor, but nothing seems to have been done.
