It's been running since 2000 and we're all still here.
There is a certain history of concern from non-scientists about this discussed in an article here:

If it's not strangelets it's micro black holes, or supernovae or setting fire to the atmosphere all the way back to Mary Shelly.
I seem to recall someone even predicted that our chests would cave in and we'd suffocate if we went above 30mph on one of those locomotive thingies
