i need a science activity for children of the age 2-3 that has to do with earth or recyling

what about making papermache earths from old newspapers, covering a balloon, and painting it as the earth.
Or making a really BIG one (using really big balloons) and painting it as the earth and cutting a hole in the top to use as a recycling container.

How about making compost or building a wormery?
Kids LOVE worms!!

You could link it into a gardening project as well.
