Does a function (wave) generator send out waves in air?
I wanted to know whether a signal/wave/function generator sends out a wave other then through a wire or physical connection. I am sure that when connected to a wire there is a particular frequency that passes through it, but if one was connect an antenna type outlet to this type of generator (usually a BNC out) would this waves be transmitted through the air?

Connect a length of unshielded wire to the output of the generator.
Tune a battery operated AM receiver to a frequency other than that of a received broadcast.
Vary the frequency of the signal/wave/function generator until a harmonic of the frequency generated corresponds to the frequency to which the AM radio is tuned.
From the radio you will hear an audio output of a frequency corresponding to the difference between a harmonic (multiple) of the generated frequency and the tuned frequency of the radio.
If you match the frequency precisely the radio will go silent with the un-modulated broadcast of the signal generator.
