I have a phone line I have at home which hasn't been used for months, and I don't know its number.
I can get a dialling tone but can't seem to dial out.
I need to find out the number of this line.
There used to be a number you could dial to find out but I've forgotten what it is.

Can anyone help out?

Surely you will receive a bill for this telephone line, and you should be able to find out by contacting the provider, giving your account no.

I suppose that's one way.

I'll just wait for a bill and see or phone VirginMedia or BT and see if they have more than one phone line registered at the address.
call the operator from it - it may be on incoming calls only, but you can dial the operator
You could look in the telephone book?
