Recreational drugs and their effect on people and society.
56 Answers
We know drugs do effect people but i get annoye by folk ranting on about how its ok to take recreational drugs they dont do you any harm.Others even go to the extreme of saying prescribed drugs are more dangerous!!!!Only if misprescribed or wrongly used ,We all know you can get addicted to prescribed drugs. But those folk who say about that then say 2 but i only smoke some weed .ive done it since i was 15.im x years old now .its not done me any harm"then you read " While small amounts of marijuana can leave the user with a pleasant sense of being high and relaxed, long term use can have negative effects. Anxiety and paranoia are commonly reported side effects of long term or large quantity users. Also, restlessness, confusion and forgetfulness have been reported. Long term use can also lead to a decrease in sex drive and a low sperm count in men."
Or how about a little speed its harmless too?" Speed is the street name for a group of amphetamines which include "crystal meth", "ice" and "goey". The most common way to take the drug is to snort or inject it, but it can also be taken by swallowing or shafting (putting it up your bum). People who inject should use clean syringes and not share other injecting equipment to minimise the transmission of HIV and Hepatitis C."
Im afaraid i have to side against using illegal drugs .As they are illegal and i think that people going around singing their praises are follish.Teenage britain is in a bad enough state without needing some old druggies saying "take some its harmless.theyre not addictive .ive only beenn smoking 10 or 15 years on the hash.but i could stop anytime .honest"Like were that stupid we believe a druggie??

as a population we are more depressed than ever, we dont mix in our communities therefore we cant seem to have fun anymore without using some kind of drug to help us relax and feel good.
community spirit is lost, most people spend more time at work than with family, we are stressed because we have financial commitments hense the need to de-stress using a variety of methods.

Hi Legend, I've never said they are harmless. They have their down sides and their upsides. I wouldn't advocate taking them unless you really want to, are aware of the dangers, have a strong sense of maturity and common sense and don't intend to get addicted. Most users of drugs have these qualities and if they don't they soon need to get them. It's unfortunate that people like those nutters you were talking about in your other thread exist to give us all a bad name. Most of us are friendly peaceful people and hearing about that sort of thing is quite upsetting.
ratteri i dont know if we did.but its answerbank and if you wanna post yuo can .if you wanna answer you can too.
all i know is the little girl getting her head smashed reminded me of little danielle via a post by annie.on further reading about her i remembered her mother was a "recreational drug user" or " junkie " as they used to call them years ago.now theyre just recreational.
question what is the difference between someone who uses heroin thats illegal or someone who smokes weed and tries a few E or some speed which is illegal?the heroin addict is called a junkie even by the hash user.but the hash user sees themselves as somwhat above the lowlife junkie heroin user.
have we reached a new class system in which junkies are lower than dope smokers?

"Experts say that although the UK's use of the most problematic drugs - heroin and crack cocaine - is comparable to other European countries, the British have a binge mentality when it comes to recreational drugs."
so it seems we are a bingee society .the futures not exactly bright is it??

already had this conversation elsewhere so I am gonna have a copy and paste, soz.
I hate bringing this into every single drugs argument I have but when I see people being so closed to the facts, it drives me nuts. If you think recreational drug taking is bad, I hope you take the same sanctimonious stand on alcohol. It causes more problems than drugs. I cant bare the whole, its illegal so I will never do it rubbish, the laws are outdated.
In Milan, Italy, there is still a law that requires citizens to smile at all times or risk a hefty fine. The only exceptions are visiting hospitals and funerals... will you be smiling constantly in Milan?
In London there is still a law that states London Taxi cabs must carry a bale of hay at all times. Would you associate with these taxi drivers because they are breaking the law?
and I do hope you haven't been breaking you egg at the sharp end cause thats 24 hours in the village stocks.
There are people who abuse plenty of things that are legally available to them. By decriminilising drugs you could better protect those who use them recreationally by having them made to a standard. Those who abuse drugs now would still do it, just like those who abuse alcohol, solvents, gambling.
Driving you car is mor dangerous than taking a pill shall we make that illegal?
To me it dosen't matter wheather you take heroin or dope, they both equal ''druggies''.
You say that that you've ''only'' been smoking 10/15 years but you could stop on the hash anytime.honest''
well why don't you then, your just as liable to have an incident driving something mechanical ie car etc etc as someone who has been drinking a quantity of alchohol, vision & reaction are two words that spring to mind.
Recreational drug taker is just another way of wording your a ''druggie'', its as if people are trying to say that they are in control and can ''take it or leave it'' when being offered drugs be it hash or heroin, its all addictive at the end of the day, druggies even believe that they can be justified in taking drugs they are non-violent where as people who drink alcohol are more liable to be violent, well thats a justifiable way of saying drugs are ok then.
The future dosen't look bright i'm afraid for our children today, you can buy booze or drugs from just about anywhere and anyone, we all have a responsibilty especially parents who have children to lead the way, this tho i'm afraid with the majority of people is beyond them.

And by the way, the police believe that Drug/driving has overtaken drink driving in the UK now.
How many of these ''recreational users'' drug/drive then, i think the number of high profile celebrities will give you a gauge to the problem
Therefore you are more now likely to be run over by a ''hash'' taker or recreational user than a drink driver.
Both should be banned for life if caught driving whilst under the influence, if they break the law again after that, go to jail 100% for as long as possible, say 10 years for starters, and please lets not have someone talk about overcrowding prisons. its bordering on pathetic

No, someone who drinks 2 pints a week for 15 years is not an alcoholic, but if in them 15 years they drank alcohol or took drugs and drove a car then what does that make them then?
It was in response to your post - someone who drank alcohol or took drugs is an irresponsible driver. There is no excuse for it.
People that do it in the privacy of their own home - let em, I say.

and as for the future for kids - Im not sure drugs and booze are the only biggest issues. Why aren't we coming down as hard on parents who let their kids get obese? if we're going to nanny over booze and drugs why not weight?
However in the words of the Guardian - the obese child dies at 50 and the pensions crisis is solved.

I know plenty of people who smoke a few spliffs a couple of times a week and have done for 15 years. In your eyes that seems to make them a druggie. Yes they could give it up, just like the guy who drinks a few pints each week down the pub but they choose not to. Drugs arent the problem, people are. Like I said if it wasnt heroin, it would be something else.
What a crock of sh!te you post S.Boy
Another idiot who trys justifying ''recreational use'' etc
Incase its escaped your notice, a number of employees do drug testing now, why do you think this is???????????
And ''junkies'' are all drug users, and what makes me think that a good majority of people smoke weed and drive are the police stats.
Don't tell me, the police stats are wrong, whats wrong with a ''little weed'' and driving, just watch the majority of the police programmes if you ''can focus'' and you might just understand where i'm coming from, so i won't hold my breath.
