Tooth Extraction...2 weeks on..
7 Answers
..and it still feels sore.
I had what I think was ulsers close the the area where I had the tooth out a few days after the extraction, they have almost gone now but the gum is still sore. It almost feels like an ulser. It all seems to be healing ok but the gum is still so sore that it hurts to brush the sides, even gently.
Today I noticed something sharp sticking out, I have read that bits of tooth/bone can work their way out but I thought this would have happened before now!
Why is it still so sore?
This is my first extraction and i am worried that I will have to go back and have more stuff done!
Help!

This happened to me years ago.
I had a tooth removed and a week or so later a sharp peice of tooth, only tiny, started to work its way out of my nearly healed gum.
If the extraction went well, then your gum should be pretty much back to normal after 2 weeks.
The best thing to do is leave it another day or so, rinse your mouth in cooled boiled salted water. If you can pull the bit of tooth out yourself then do so....
If not the dentist will be able to pull it with a pair of tweezers.
It will not be painfull... Promise!!!!
If you just leave it, it may get infected and that will lead to more problems... best get it sorted asap!!

Hi iwbus, Poor you . I sympathise with you ,having suffered something similar last year. When I asked about pain following extraction of a tooth I was advised to 'google' a condition called dry socket. It is just and idea and maybe worth a look? It was indeed what was causing my pain and a while later I was on the road to recovery. I hope you are soon.
I had a tooth out recently as it was giving me great pain and I thought I would end up feeling like you did, but I must admit, the minute the tooth came out the pain went and I cannot believe I have had a tooth out.
It healed up almost overnight and it was one of my back ones.
Do go back and get it seen to.

Morning! I was glad to read this, sorry for you, but glad because my husband had a tooth out about two weeks ago and he was still uncomfortable and prodding the gum coz it was swollen and red. He made an appt. to go back to the dentist (and will still go on Tuesday), but on Saturday night a bit of tooth or bone came out, and overnight the swelling went down and he's back to his happy self. There's a bit of leaking going on from the hole so he's going back to have it checked out for infection, but you (and he) will be glad to know it's quite normal. Here's to a speedy recovery for you both!
