how fast is the ISS travelling? How far does it travel in the 5 minutes it is visible to us?

Its speed varies a little. It drops lower due to atmospheric drag and then has to be reboosted. Lower means faster in orbits, but an average is around 16700mph/ 26700kph. So in the 5 mins of a long pass (quite a few are shorter than that) it travels about 1390 miles or 2800 km.
Sorry, I was brunged up in imperial - and a long time ago - make that 1390miles or about 2425km.
