what is the (rough) size ratio of the moon to the earth?

I was working out the diameter of the moon, and not knowing the circumference i based it on being roughly a quarter of the size of the earth, but was wrong. Does anyone know what the ratio is?

I believe the moons diameter is 2140 miles giving a ratio of approx 4-1

Yes - I think the moon is 21oo miles and the earth is 7900 miles, so 4 to 1 is approximately correct. How exact do you need to be? "Roughly a quarter" is correct, but "Exactly a quarter" is not.

thanks JT and Bernie. I think that having considered it then yes i was right in that the moon is roughly one quarter the earth's diameter. I simply must have got my maths wrong. ((27000/4)/3.14) = 2149.68. three stars each. question closed
