Chlorine+ elastane?!

Don't really know if I've put this Q in the right section but here goes: I'm sick of looking for a black pair of tankini bottoms for swimming in since my old ones are wearing out. The top's fine, but my Q is how safe would it be to wear my identical looking bridget-jones-style pull in pants instead with a label of 62% polymide, 38% Elastane Lycra?! Would it be safe in chlorine and/or sea-water?

What safe as
the chemical mixture may result in some sort of reaction where the elastane and lycra become permanently stuck to you or
that the material would become transparent?

Sorry this isn't answer at all, but I couldn't resist asking.

LOL. Well I suppose what I'm essentially asking is, how is swimwear designed for the purpose of swimming exactly? Why can we not just wear shorts, undies etc? Is it just cos they'd get heavier when wet? But yes, I'd also like to know whether transparancy would become an issue! : )
