What is the advantage of using rack and pinion other than other mechanisms?

Generally, there's only one other mechanism, that being "standard steering mechanism"... a euphemism to describe a device that is complicated, with a heart being the steering box. There are lots of various pieces and parts. The major advantage of rack and pinion steering is the simplicity of the system. Although, it too, contains a steering box it is incorporated into the system. It also gives better feed back of steering and the tendancy to oversteer in certain turning/skidding conditions. Most sports cars are equipped with rack and pinion steering.
