Why do your fingers sometimes turn green when you wear costume jewellery?

It's the copper in it, hollie. Copper reacts to turns skin green. The piece that you wear might not be pure copper, but it might have enough copper in it to cause a reaction, and some people seem to have body chemistry that's prone to staining

As above. It's the acids in persiration that are corroding the copper content.

You could be allergic to the metals the jewels are made of.

It's not only copper. If i wear 9crt gold the skin underneath goes greenish...but 18crt is okay. (it's TRUE i swear) Expensive for the husband but hey can I jelp it? lol

Anyone know why? I thought perhaps 9crt gold has more of anotehr kind of metal in it and perhaps my skin is more acidic / or alkaline (dunno which) than most?

I believe you eve..... I think.

But it could very well be true. Copper is an common element in gold jewellery, and the higher the carat, the less the alloy content.
