TV aerials are not insulated from the building on which they are fixed. Why does the signal not travel to earth?Can anybody explain in layman's terms please. I await hearing. Peter edward

The other elements in front and behind the active elements make the antenna respond most strongly to signals from the front. Those in front are known as directors and are shorter while those behind are resonators and are longer than the active elements.
These parts do not need to be insulated because the currents run between the tips and the centre point which stays at ground.
