Flooring help please

We are soon to be decorating the downstairs of the house we moved into about a year ago. The kitchen and dining room are open plan (the dining room - which also has a utility area - is an extension) and they have different flooring. The flooring in the kitchen is some type of white (shiny) tiling and the dining area has hexagonal brown tiles - not shiny. Hope this makes sense. I would like to unify the colour throughout and wonder if anyone has any advise. The flooring is not like vinyl which we could just lift and replace. Any ideas on how we could go about this please. I am considering getting a flooring company in but would like some idea of costs.

Have spoken to my Husband who tells me that the dining room floor is solid - ? stone or something similar. Think that I am looking at removing it all unless someone has another idea? Looks as if it could be an expensive job.

Without wishing to dodge the question it would help to to know what type of flooring that you want to replace/cover the existing floor with.
Assuming that you dont want to go to the trouble of removing the existing tiled flooring you could lay other tiling,vinyl or laminate/wood for example on top. One of the things to consider is the height that these various coverings will come up against existing kitchen units/skirting. You may also need to shave off the bottom of any room doors so that the new covering doesn't stop these doors opening/moving.

Thank you very much for your answer Parkesquay. Ideally I would like to extend the flooring (?stone ) through into the kitchen. The colour is not actually brown, sort of a terracota. Probably won't be able to match it up. Think my best bet is to get some advice from a flooring company (without committing myself to anything) and taking it from there. Maybe look in shops selling flooring as well. Pity I can't take a bit of the floor with me!!. Will also have to think about floor level as you said.
