2012AD alignment

Assuming many of you know that Earth,Sun (& Moon?) all align with the centre of our Milky Way Galaxy Black Hole....Anyone know if that IS a potential catastrophe? And are there other examples of Super Novae which have suffered their fate as a result of similar Galactic Centre alignment???

Whether or not a sun goes nova is a function, almost entirely of its internal composition. Occasionally there may be external factors, a binary companion, the composition of a surrounding nebula etc but largely a sun goes nova all on its own. By definition, the Earth, the Sun and the galactic centre must line up, as near as dammit, twice a year, the only "extra" is the moon. Sleep easy.

I have just realised that in the 2008 AA Road Atlas there will be an alignment of Sevenoaks, London, Nottingham. Manchester and Ayr.

Does this signify the imminent collapse of the road network?

If I line up my nose, left thumb and right big toe, will my heart stop?

WTF has happenned to the Science section? Invaded by numpties?? The black hole is 20000 light years away and at that range the gravity is roughly equal to that exerted by your brain cell.

I have read the planets will align in december 2012 but not heard about the black hole bit.

Don't know if it will really cause a potential catastrophe but I think the end of the mayan calendar is december 2012 and have read quite a bit of stuff about folks thinking this is the end of the world. Theres some strange 11:11 theory (paranoia lol) that seems to be a part of it all

Careful placement of the salt and pepper shakers at the critical moment should alleviate any concerns of a galactic collapse, although you should prepare for exceptionally high tides. I myself intend to tempt fate with a physical alignment of me with my partners heavenly body at the time in question. Prepare for increased earthquake activity.

The only scary scenario would be the Earth's position coinciding with the jets of high energy plasma ejected from our galactic centre. This would destroy the Earth. For this to happen we would have to be positioned above the galactic north or south poles and we aren't and will never be. In any case our Milky Way galaxy is not particularly energetic. Any gravitational effects of a 2012 alignment will be utterly negligible.
