Why is it when you clout your elbow on something you never know wether to laugh or cry? I always want to do both and I have never found out what causes that reaction.
Does nay one know why?
Thanks for your time.

cos youre not really hitting a bone, its a nerve which hits the bone, giving you that funny feeling

its sore lol

It just seems such a strange reaction. I thought it would be just pain if you belt a nerve like that.
Wierd isn't it.
...... which is why it's called the funny bone - although, admittedly, it's not really funny when you hit it.

Just to elaborate on what weeal said - I think it's the Ulna nerve that gets hit.

My son says it's more like his four letter word bone.
He hit it the other day on the door and the stream of words coming out were colourful.
I said thats ur funny bone and the above was his reply.
yeah it is the ulna nerve it loops around your medial malleolus (the middle sticky out bit on your elbow) so its realy close to the skin hence its easy to knock.

i always thought it was called your funny bone because the the bone is your humerous?
Funny Bone <"? Hmm, I'll have to remember to try that next time I'm feeling a little down. On second thought maybe I'll just think twice before allowing myself to feel down again . . . unless I hit my #%&*@ funny bone.
When I clout my elbow it hurts ... I wince and cry, and everyone else laughs.
But the bone you actually hit (the 'point') isn't your humerus (upper arm bone) it's your ulna - as someone said, the ulna nerve. I just felt my own elbow to make sure! Someone clearly sacrificed anatomical accuracy for the sake of a joke, how shocking ;-).

I hate doing it and it happens way too often, mostly on doorways.
