I'm afraid that's what children bring with them. You fear for them especially as the future is uncertain.
But there are only two things that are certain in this life.
Change and death.
My advice, don't watch the news, seriously, it helps.
Imho you can never have too much therapy, it might help you come to terms with an uncertain future.

I understand where you are coming from luckyman. The amount of stabbings and violet crime seems to be everywhere but especially in London.
21 young people have died in Bridgend? since the beginning of 2007, all suicides. That really needs looking at.
Local crime where I live is just as bad.If there are 12 items of news on regional TV usually 9 are to do with crime.
I can't agree with 'In a pickle' as I'm sure there must be more stabbings etc than when I went to school, there was never anybody bringing a knife to school that's for sure.If you can do it, I think it is best to avoid the news and reading newspapers and try not to discuss it with other people as sometimes people can put the fear of God up you.

I'm glad I'm not a child or young teen.
Yes the future does not look good.
The main concerns being :-
1 - Global warming / Climate Change
2 - World over population
In fact it all comes down to number 2 ...over population.
This will cause shortages and fighting over scarse resources.
However it will all settle to a stable level in the end.
But during the course of self leveling of population the following is to come...
Third world famine - Just watch Africa starve over the next 24 months. We have the perfect storm for huge famine.
War - The rich west will want resources. If we cant buy them we will take them anyway.
We are more or less protected when it comes down to obtaining food. We are a rich nation.
Oil - We will always have oil. We will simply go to war for it. We have an army and with the support of the USA , we will protect our supplies of energy.
Put away your morals , it will be every man for himself.

I haven't watched the news or read a paper since 9/11. Like you rightfully said, it's always doom and gloom.
In 1980 my brother gave me a book called "The Prophecies of Nostradamus" and after reading it I was convinced the world was going to end in 1999. To say it screwed up my life would be an understatement. But here we are, 2008 and still here - which means I spent 20 years of my life worrying over nothing.
The best advice I can offer is try to put all the nastiness of the world to one side (I know it's a lot easier said than done) and enjoy life. And above all, enjoy your family. Otherwise, in 20 years time you'll probably be just like me and wondering why you wasted all those years worrying over nothing.

Pickle, I expect youre right about violence being commonplace a couple of centuries ago, but you know as well as I do that back in the 50s and 60s (and 70s or 80s to a lesser extent) you could walk down the street or go out for the evening without fear of being attacked or feeling threatened. This isnt the case these days.
The TV News is always depressing, partly because they scour the globe for any wars or suffering going on in remote parts. Usually they will find some.

YOU ARE RIGHT! Its nothing to do with you getting younger or older, the fact is, we are now facing citical times and if you have ever read the BIBLE, it has been predicted that what we are now facing is the signs of the times. Every thing you mention about the world crisis, its state that in the Bible that all these things will happen. Yes, its very worrying, but if we have any faith, we will be looking to the Creator to correct the probels, but only if you believe there is a Creator. No many do because, they say that if there was a Creator, then " why does he let all the wicked people get away with badness".
Like I said, we need to have faith and know that the Creator who made all things possible, will take action.
