The specific latent heat of water evaporation is 2300 kJ/Kg. Does this figure equally apply to water vapour condensation?

Conservation of energy. What goes in, must come out - if the final state is the same as the starting state.

Energy cannot be created or destroyed - it can only be converted from one form to another.
Latent means hidden. In this case the heat energy supplied or removed does not result in a change in temperature. 2.2MJ of heat energy must be supplied to change 1kg of water into 1kg of vapour. Conversely, when 1kg of vapour condenses to 1kg of water, 2.2MJ of heat energy must be removed.
At the risk of appearing dumb, if energy can't be created or destroyed, where did it all come from in the first place?
