These hide in a little silk bag, and look like rather long grains of animated rice. They graze on the carpet under the furniture, then when mature they may crawl up the wall to pupate. They could easily end up on the ceiling. Often behind pictures or curtains too.
The solution is simple -- vacuum under and behind everything all the time! Can't be bothered myself, so I just pick them off the wall when I see them...
The moths are little brown scuttly things with long whip-like feelers -- unlike clothes moth, which is the one with the white head.
Not likely to be glow-worms, not in UK anyway. They are beetles living in rough grass, especially on downland and heathland. They eat snails, and are usually seen in warm summer weather.
They don't come indoors, in Britain, though I have seen them indoors (glowing under the bedsheet!) in Majorca.
There are other firefly and glow-worm species elsewhere, and I don't know what they do.
Lindy -- any time the urge for vacuuming comes on, let me know and you can drop round...
