Hypothermia survival times in water
1 Answers
Does anyone know a reliable account of ANYONE having survived immersion in water of 28F/-2C for over an hour and possibly nearer 2-2.5? Survival rates I've found for this temperature water are all around the max. 45 minute mark with unconsciousness at 15 mins, but one source said 1h 20 mins average which seems much too long compared to the others. As far as I can see it's highly unlikely, especially since he'd had a little to drink which makes it worse.
However, if anyone knows of any cases where this did happen please let me know; I'm wondering if clothing etc can make that much of a difference, but the guy I have in mind claims to have survived this.)
(If you're tempted to mention the name Charles Joughin, he's the one I'm asking about. I really doubt that it could have happened as he said, but I'm willing to be proved wrong if there have been cases where this definitely happened).
